The Supreme Court Today (May 16th) stayed criminal proceedings before a trial court in Uttar Pradesh over five FIRs lodged against the vice-chancellor of the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) and others for alleged illegal conversion of Hindus to Christianity.
Today, On 3rd May, The Supreme Court of India scheduled a final hearing on May 14 for multiple petitions challenging FIRs against the Vice-Chancellor of SHUATS in Uttar Pradesh and others, related to allegations of unlawful religious conversions. The court also directed the submission of written arguments, highlighting the complexity of the case and its constitutional significance.
Today 5th April,The Supreme Court (SC) granted bail to Ram Sewak in a religious conversion case, with a maximum bail bond of Rs 25,000. The court deferred additional bail conditions to the trial court. Charges against Sewak and others include attempted murder, intentional insult, extortion, and violations of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
The Supreme Court granted bail to Sam Higginbottom University’s vice chancellor, Rajendra Bihari Lal, in religious conversion cases. The court raised concerns about excessive police interest in the matter. Lal is charged with serious offenses and is required to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The state government’s plea to recall the bail order was denied.
The Supreme Court granted interim bail Today to Rajendra Bihari Lal, Vice Chancellor of SHUATS, in a case involving alleged illegal religious conversion. The Court issued notice to the UP government, challenging the Allahabad High Court’s decision. The bail bond was limited to Rs 25,000. The police had accused Lal and others of leading a mass religious conversion with foreign funding.
