The Central government of India has appointed four lawyers as judges of the Rajasthan High Court following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointees include Anand Sharma, Sunil Beniwal, Sandeep Shah, and Mukesh Rajpurohit, while three other candidates remain unapproved. Rajasthan High Court currently has 34 of 50 sanctioned judges.
The Rajasthan High Court clarified that for an offence under the SC/ST Act, the insult or intimidation must occur publicly, witnessed by others. The court quashed previous cognizance orders, noting the absence of evidence for a public incident in the case filed by Prithvi Ram against Chhinder Singh, undermining the charges.
The Rajasthan HC strongly objected to scheduling over 1,600 cases for a single day due to excessive workload. Justice Monga suggested measures to prevent such overload, proposing distinct cause lists and labeling systems. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the Registrar’s explanation and criticized the chaotic situation, highlighting the impracticality of addressing each case in the allotted time.
