Today, On 16th April, In the RSS leader Srinivasan murder case, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the NIA’s plea against bail granted to PFI members. The Court said the special court would be the more appropriate forum to seek bail cancellation.
Jahidul Islam, a Bangladeshi national, was sentenced to seven years in prison by a Bengaluru special court for promoting terrorism linked to Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh India. He also received a fine of Rs 57,000 for related offenses. His actions included robbery and recruitment for militant activities, contributing to a total of 11 convictions in similar cases.
The Delhi High Court on 27th May, denied bail to Abubacker E., former Chairman of the Popular Front of India (PFI), under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act being investigated by the NIA. The court found substantial evidence of PFI’s plan to establish Islamic law by 2047, overthrowing the constitutional government. Abubacker’s plea for medical grounds was also rejected. PFI and its affiliates were banned under UAPA by the Central Government on 28th September 2022, and the Apex Court declined to intervene in the matter on 6th November 2023.
