Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice GC Mittal has passed away at the age of 90. His family announced the news through the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, marking the end of a respected legal legacy.
Today, On 9th May, Punjab & Haryana High Court criticised lawyers for observing a “No Work Day” amid rising India-Pakistan tensions, asking, “Forces are fighting the battle, you will be sitting home & resting? Soldiers are at war.”
The Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association has declared May 9 as a ‘No Work Day’ due to a prolonged blackout in Chandigarh and rising cross-border tensions, urging lawyers to stay away for safety and security.
Yesterday, On 22nd November, Former Supreme Court judge Justice H.S. Bedi passed away on November 22, marking a significant loss for the legal community. He was the father of Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Jasjit Singh Bedi. His cremation will take place in Chandigarh, with lawyers at the High Court observing work refrains in tribute.
On Friday(12th July), Chandigarh Police arrested Vikas Malik, President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, following his disqualification by the Bar Council. The arrest is linked to allegations of a physical altercation with another lawyer, highlighting serious legal consequences for Malik. The Bar Council expressed deep concern over his involvement in the disappearance of important evidence.
