Bar Council of India launches One-Time Special Relief Scheme 2025 to help Punjab and Haryana bar associations recover from recent floods. The initiative aims to support the legal community in rebuilding and overcoming damages caused by heavy rainfall.
The Supreme Court slammed the district bar associations in Haryana, stating that lawyers’ chambers have turned into hubs for property dealers. A Bench led by Justice Surya Kant warned that it may order a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into their activities if necessary. The court expressed concern over the misuse of legal chambers, which should be dedicated to legal work but are instead being used for commercial dealings.

The Court condemned these states for inadequate actions and suggested fines are not deterring farmers. Haryana offers Rs. 1,000 per acre to prevent burning while farmers seek lasting solutions to this environmental issue.
The Supreme Court urged the Central government to engage with protesting farmers and proposed the formation of an independent committee to address the trust deficit. It directed both Punjab and Haryana to plan the removal of barricades at the Shambhu border and emphasized the importance of avoiding conflict between the states.
