Today, On 17th December, Supreme Court declined to interfere with the suspension of Panna Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajaram Bharti after hearing his challenge to the temporary suspension order. The Chief Justice questioned why the order was passed just before retirement.
The Gujarat High Court dismissed the petition of Civil Judge Mayuri Panchal, who was removed from her position due to “unsuitability” and suspected forgery. Despite efforts to challenge the decision and seek anticipatory bail, her plea was rejected. The court clarified that the termination did not accuse her of misconduct. Panchal argued that her dismissal was stigmatic, but the bench rejected her petition.
Justices Ajay Gadkari and Neela Gokhale condemned the conduct of Sudhir Pawar and the court registry, ordering an inquiry into the juvenile court’s functioning in Bhiwandi. They criticized Pawar for refusing to accept a chargesheet without the juvenile’s presence and found the presiding officer’s control over the court questionable. The High Court permitted the police to file the chargesheet promptly.
The Delhi High Court emphasized that trial courts must have the conviction judgment prepared before declaring an accused guilty. This ruling came after a case where two men were ordered into custody before the judgment was ready. The court directed District and Sessions Judges to ensure proper procedures to safeguard the rights of the accused.
