The Supreme Court today declined to quash a fresh FIR against former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini related to the 1991 disappearance and murder of engineer Balwant Singh Multani. The Court cited the submission of a charge sheet in the case and refused to interfere. Saini was directed to proceed with the trial and challenge the proceedings legally.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah faces prosecution over alleged irregularities in land allocations by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot approved the prosecution after petitions from activists. Today (9th May) Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, a defendant in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, alleged that Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officers coerced him to confess and implicated senior right-wing leaders. He claimed he was tortured and falsely accused, with witnesses being coerced. Purohit also accused the ATS of planting evidence and named individuals involved in his interrogation.
