A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s designation of 70 lawyers as Senior Advocates. Following the designation process, a committee member resigned, alleging the final list was altered without his approval. The Supreme Court’s response will address concerns about the transparency of the designation process.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday (Oct 14) a plea by an NGO seeking directions to the Centre to start a 24-hour Sindhi language channel on Doordarshan. A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is likely to hear the petition filed by NGO Sindhi Sangat challenging an order of the Delhi High Court which dismissed the plea. The NGO has moved the top court against the May 27 order of the high court which dismissed the plea, saying the decision of Prasar Bharti not to start a 24-hour Sindhi language channel is based on an intelligible differentia.
The Supreme Court rejected the review petition challenging its February 15 judgment by which the electoral bonds scheme was struck down. A Constitution Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra dismissed the review petition filed by advocate Mathews J Nedumpara. “Application for listing the review petitions in open Court is dismissed. Delay condoned. Having perused the review petitions, there is no error apparent on the face of the record. No case for review under Order XLVII Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013. The review petitions are, therefore, dismissed,” the Court said.

Supreme Court judge Justice PV Sanjay Kumar Today (July 11th) recused from hearing a bail plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia in the money laundering case filed against him in the Delhi excise policy case.
CJI Led Bench Today (July 8th) said it would consider listing of a fresh petition of AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia by which his bail plea has been sought to be revived in the excise policy scam cases. On June 4, the top court had refused to entertain the bail pleas of Sisodia in cases lodged by the CBI and the ED in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
Today(on 8th July), Delhi High Court issues notices to Tihar Jail and ED in response to Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for more lawyer meetings due to involvement in 35 legal cases nationwide. Currently permitted only two meetings per week, Kejriwal argues the need for more frequent meetings to strategize effectively. Trial court previously denied his request for additional meetings.
