The Supreme Court has given the Centre six weeks to respond to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) asking for chemical castration of rapists. The Court also allowed the petitioner to share the plea with women lawyers for their suggestions. This move is part of efforts to improve women’s safety and justice for sexual offences. The petitioner can consult experts to strengthen the case.
On Wednesday(21st August), The SC Women Lawyers Association strongly condemned the increase in crimes against women, urging urgent reforms. They highlighted rising violence in states like Kolkata, Bihar, and Maharashtra. The organization advocated for a ban on online pornography, gender sensitization, CCTV systems in workplaces, and coordinated action from government and the public to create a safer society for women.
