South Calcutta Law College, shut since June 29 after a student’s alleged gang rape on campus, told the Alipore court it wants to reopen, citing a police email stating no objection to resuming academic activities.
The West Bengal Bar Council has cancelled the lawyer license of Monojit Mishra, the main accused in the Kolkata law college rape case, following growing outrage and a formal complaint from the victim.
After a law student was raped, the Calcutta High Court ordered students’ union offices to remain closed in all Bengal colleges and universities. The court ruled, “Keep union offices closed until elections,” banned recreational use and allowed access with permission.
