The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that a District Collector has no authority under the Code of Criminal Procedure to direct police to recall a closure report or reopen a concluded investigation. It held that such executive interference unlawfully encroaches upon powers reserved exclusively for the judiciary.
A social activist has moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into allegations that Adani Green Energy and its associates paid bribes to secure solar power contracts in multiple States. The plea also challenges the Bombay High Court’s dismissal of the petition and its adverse remarks against the petitioner.
The Supreme Court directed the Centre to form a committee to ensure uniform post-retirement facilities for retired High Court judges across all States within two weeks. CJI Surya Kant observed that while some States provide adequate support, others fail to offer even basic facilities, creating significant disparities.
