Today, On 9th May, The Supreme Court urged the Centre not to release SSC women Army officers challenging denial of permanent commission. It said, “In the prevailing situation, let’s not bring their morale down,” stressing support for women in uniform.
The Supreme Court directed women officers of the Indian Navy to approach the Armed Forces Tribunal for promotions, following past rulings granting them permanent commission. The court acknowledged the need for thorough evaluation of promotion criteria and urged prompt resolutions. This reflects ongoing efforts toward gender equality in military roles.
More than 400 Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) are seeking post-retirement benefits, alleging discrimination and citing violations of their constitutional rights. They argue that they are denied benefits under various pension schemes and are left without financial support post-retirement. The case, acknowledged by the Supreme Court, could have significant implications for similar cases in various sectors.
Today(on 26th April), The Delhi High Court has directed the Defence Ministry to decide the plea for women’s inclusion in the Armed Forces through CDS exam within 8 weeks. The plea was submitted by Advocate Kush Kalra and highlights the issue of gender discrimination in the recruitment process, emphasizing the urgency of ensuring equal opportunities.
