TVK chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay has moved the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Act. He joins a growing list of petitioners who argue that the Act is discriminatory and infringes upon fundamental rights. The case has sparked nationwide debate over religious laws and constitutional protections.
Today, On 8th April, During a hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting the rise in crimes against women, particularly rape cases, the Supreme Court made a strong appeal to the government. The bench stated, “Leave the women alone in this country; let them grow,” urging authorities to broaden sensitisation efforts. The Court stressed the urgent need for awareness and prevention measures. It emphasized that protecting women’s rights and dignity must be a national priority.
The petition to the Supreme Court argues that the exclusion of ‘Rajasthani’ from teacher recruitment violates children’s rights to education in their mother tongue. Despite the RTE Act and NEP supporting mother tongue instruction, millions of children remain deprived, as only 22 scheduled languages are recognized in education, undermining linguistic diversity.
