Today, On 8th August, The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a PIL filed by the Delimitation Demand Committee for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. The bench said it will soon fix a date for a detailed hearing.
New Delhi: Today, 17th March, The Supreme Court has given the Central Government three months to complete the pending delimitation process in the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam. This decision came after the Centre, through Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, requested additional time to conduct the exercise.
The Gauhati High Court, led by Justice Devashis Baruah, annulled the appointments of 935 Nagaland police constables due to irregularities. The Court mandated a new, legally compliant recruitment process within six months, addressing concerns over “backdoor appointments.” Previous appointees may remain for six months until replacements are made.
Today, On 23rd July, The Supreme Court praised Nagaland for holding local body elections with a 33% women’s quota and closed the contempt case against the state government. Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan commended the participation and success of women candidates. The Court had previously mandated the reservation of one-third of the seats for women in these elections.
