Centre notifies major judicial expansion with appointment of 24 Allahabad High Court judges, 3 Karnataka High Court judges, and 2 Himachal Pradesh High Court judges, strengthening India’s judiciary.
The Allahabad High Court dismissed a lawyer’s demand for a Rs.1 crore fee from the government for a case he filed on his own. The court noted that the petitioner was never officially engaged by the government. The Centre clarified that it has a dedicated panel of advocates representing its interests in the Supreme Court. The ruling reinforces that self-filed cases do not warrant government compensation.
India’s Central government has confirmed that it does not currently have plans to regulate third-party litigation funding. In response to a parliamentary question posed by Mohammed Nadimul Haque, a Rajya Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress, the government made it clear that it is not considering any regulatory framework to manage third-party funding of legal cases.
