Centre Tells Supreme Court on Deportation of Bangladesh Nationals from Assam Detention Centres

New Delhi: The Central Government informed the Supreme Court on Friday that 13 Bangladeshi nationals have been sent back to their country, and efforts are on to deport the remaining illegal immigrants currently staying in Assam’s detention centres. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented both the Central Government and the Assam Government, presented the updates before a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan.

“Conduct Surprise Inspections at Matia Transit Camp for Hygiene & Food Quality”: SC Orders Assam Legal Services Authority

Today, On 4th October, the Supreme Court directed the Assam Legal Services Authority to conduct surprise inspections at the Matia Transit Camp for detainees pending deportation. The court is concerned about hygiene, food quality, and detainees’ rights, ordering a report on the conditions within one month, with further hearings set for November 4.
