Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena received relief in a defamation case filed by activist Medha Patkar. The case dates back 24 years to when Saxena was active in Gujarat, before taking charge in Delhi. In 2003, the Supreme Court transferred the case to Saket Court in Delhi. The legal battle has been ongoing since then.
The Delhi High Court received assurances from Assembly authorities that the indefinite suspension of seven BJP MLAs was not to suppress dissent. The proceedings against the suspended MLAs by the privileges committee would be expedited. The court considered petitions challenging their suspension, with the next hearing scheduled for February 26. The suspended MLAs argue that their suspension violates applicable rules.
