A new survey by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) shows that 38.5% of women lawyers find the legal profession discouraging, revealing serious challenges linked to gender bias, limited leadership opportunities, and the pressures of marriage and motherhood affecting careers.
New Delhi, Feb 17: The Uttar Pradesh government has informed the Supreme Court that it is making changes to state laws to remove the practice of appointing the wives and family members of bureaucrats as ex-officio members in cooperative societies and trusts. The government is also working on model rules to regulate these entities, especially those receiving financial aid from the state.
The Supreme Court of India today (7th Jan) clarified that a 10-year experience requirement does not apply to the Treasurer’s post reserved for women in district bar associations. This clarification follows previous orders aimed at implementing a 33% quota for women in various legal bodies, highlighting the need for increased female representation.
