The court expressed deep frustration with the MCD’s financial mismanagement and emphasized the statutory obligation to disburse payments. This ultimatum highlights the critical need for immediate reform within the MCD.
Supreme Court Justice P S Narasimha, previously involved in the MGNREGA matter as a lawyer, recused himself from hearing a plea for sufficient funds. The case was to be referred to Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud for a new bench. Swaraj Abhiyan’s plea highlighted the grave crisis faced by MGNREGA workers, seeking adequate funds and compliance with program guidelines.
