The Supreme Court today (21st Oct) has criticized the Karnataka government for “harassing” students by conducting board examinations for classes 8 to 10, prohibiting the declaration of results until further notice. This follows the withdrawal of a circular for board exams in several rural districts, while exams proceeded in others. The court seeks detailed examination process information within four weeks.

Today, On 9th September, The Karnataka High Court extended the stay on trial court proceedings against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA case until September 12. The case involves alleged irregularities during his tenure as Chairman of MUDA. The court postponed the hearing on Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the Governor’s approval for his prosecution to the same date. This extends temporary relief to the CM as the legal battle continues.
The Karnataka Government today withdrew its plea challenging the 25 percent domicile reservation for Karnataka students at NLSIU. The High Court’s ruling against the Amendment Act led to this decision. NLSIU had independently implemented the reservation, rendering the plea unnecessary. The extension allows the SIT additional time for their probe, following an initial custody period of seven days. The allegations surfaced after the circulation of over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of multiple women.

On Friday(17th May), The Supreme Court has asked Janata Dal (Secular) leader BB Patil to respond to Karnataka government’s plea against quashing a criminal complaint for damaging EVMs. The notice was issued by a Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Satish Chandra Sharma, challenging a 2023 Karnataka High Court order.
Today(on 6th May), the Supreme Court decided to hold a hearing in July on Karnataka’s plea for NDRF aid for drought management. Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta will preside over the matter.
