The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of overstepping its authority during raids, claiming procedural violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and infringement on employee privacy. TASMAC argues the ED’s actions were illegal and lacked transparency regarding the reasons for their search and data seizure.
The Madras High Court criticized the Tamil Nadu government for not informing it about a transfer petition to the Supreme Court regarding the TASMAC and ED case. The court expressed disappointment, feeling the State acted unfairly. The ED claims financial irregularities in TASMAC operations involved more than Rs.1,000 crore and sparked political tensions.
The Madras High Court criticized Chennai Police for leaking the identity of a sexual assault victim from Anna University, questioning their accountability and handling of the case. The Court stressed the need for redaction of victim details in FIRs, emphasizing that lapses could deter future victims from seeking help.
On 13th April: In a late-night hearing, the Madras High Court intervened as the Tamil Nadu government failed to provide basic amenities for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebration. Justice Subramaniam personally directed the government to immediately arrange necessary facilities for the public gathering at the memorial in Chennai. The court’s directive emphasized the importance of ensuring a suitable environment for the commemoration.
