NEW DELHI: Today, 7th March, The Supreme Court of India has granted interim bail to Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari in a case filed under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986. The Court, while allowing the bail, imposed strict conditions on his movements and public statements.
New Delhi, Feb 24 – The Supreme Court suggested that the central government consider changing the terminology used in caste certificates for Scheduled Caste (SC) individuals. However, the court emphasized that their rights should remain unchanged. A bench consisting of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh acknowledged that the final decision rests with Parliament but said that modifying the nomenclature could help prevent individuals from being identified by caste names.
NEW DELHI: Today, 18th Feb, The Supreme Court of India recently heard a petition filed by popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. The case concerns the controversial show “India’s Got Latent,” and the court raised concerns about the regulation of “obscene” content on platforms like YouTube and social media.
The Supreme Court warned against the misuse of the law in marital dispute cases lodged by women against their husbands and families, saying that it cannot be used as a “tool to unleash personal vendetta”. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh on Tuesday (Dec 10) made the observation while setting aside a cruelty case filed against a man and his family under Section 498(A), which the Telangana High Court had refused to dismiss earlier.
Today, On 16th July, the Centre approved the appointments of Justices N Kotiswar Singh and R Mahadevan as Supreme Court judges, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium on July 11. Once confirmed, the court will have a full complement of 34 judges. Justice Singh will be the first Supreme Court judge from Manipur, and Justice Mahadevan has extensive experience in the legal field.
