Today, On 25th November, Justice M. Jagannadha Rao, a former Supreme Court judge, passed away on November 25 at the age of 88. Renowned for his contributions to legal reforms in India, he was the father of current Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao. His career included pivotal roles in several High Courts and the Law Commissions.
Today(20th Sept), The Supreme Court directed the Central government to submit a list of reiterated judgeship names and reasons for delays in processing. This occurred during hearings on petitions, including one from the Jharkhand government regarding Justice MS Ramachandra Rao’s appointment.
The Jharkhand government petitioned the Supreme Court over the Central government’s delay in approving the appointment of a new Chief Justice for the state’s High Court. The plea cites the extended delays in previous appointments and highlights concerns about the impact on judicial independence. The intervention of the Supreme Court is sought to address this issue.
