The Calcutta High Court has initiated a Suo motu inquiry into alarming allegations from Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. Serious accusations of sexual assault at gunpoint and illegal tribal land transfer have prompted concern. The court appointed a lawyer as a friend of the court and directed the state government to submit a detailed report by February 20. Meanwhile, a special police team is already investigating the case.
