Today (30th April): The Supreme Court rejected Debasish Dhar’s plea on his nomination cancellation from Birbhum, stating that intervening would disrupt the ongoing election process. The court dismissed allegations of prejudice against the returning officer, affirming that he acted in good faith. Dhar’s resignation as an IPS officer did not imply the absence of pending dues. Consequently, the case was dismissed as withdrawn.
Today (29th April): The BJP candidate for the Birbhum Lok Sabha seat, Debasish Dhar, has challenged the cancellation of his nomination in the Supreme Court. The cancellation was due to the absence of a no-objection certificate from the West Bengal government. The urgency stems from the imminent elections, with an alternative candidate named as a precaution.
On 27th March: Former Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer Sanjiv Bhatt has been convicted by a Gujarat court in a 28-year-old drug planting case dating back to 1996.
