NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to approach the Supreme Court to lift the temporary stay that prevents the creation of basic facilities on janmam lands in Gudalur, located in the Nilgiris district. Additionally, the State government will request the Supreme Court to allow cases related to the Tamil Nadu Gudalur Janmam Estates (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1969, to be heard separately from other pending cases.

Concerns arose about the SPG seeking NGT approval instead of the Supreme Court, particularly amid air pollution monitoring efforts in Delhi. A hearing is scheduled for December 16.

The Supreme Court agreed to consider Punjab government’s plea for urgent release of over Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre, related to Rural Development Fund dues. The state seeks immediate funds as an interim measure, claiming the Centre owes Punjab over Rs 4,200 crore. Lawyer Shadan Farasat appealed for an early hearing, which was accepted by Chief Justice Chandrachud.
Debabrata Saikia, Leader of Opposition in Assam, has filed an Interlocutory Application before the Supreme Court On 13th March, challenging the regulations and Citizenship Amendment Act.
