New Delhi: The Central Government informed the Supreme Court on Friday that 13 Bangladeshi nationals have been sent back to their country, and efforts are on to deport the remaining illegal immigrants currently staying in Assam’s detention centres. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented both the Central Government and the Assam Government, presented the updates before a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan.
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has reserved its judgment in a case concerning the indefinite detention of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the country. The case was heard by a bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan. It was initially brought before the Calcutta High Court but was later transferred to the Supreme Court in 2013.
The Bombay High Court granted bail to Mamta Yadav, accused of killing her child, after over six years in custody without trial progress. Justice Pitale emphasized her right to a speedy trial, citing constitutional guarantees. The prosecution’s claims and the case’s circumstantial evidence were discussed, highlighting the lack of witness testimonies.
