Today, On 29th December, The Supreme Court heard a petition challenging demolition of a structure a madarsa on Mehrauli–Badarpur Road. CJI Surya Kant said, “If it were a historical structure, we could have examined it, but this concerns an illegal slum-area structure.”
The Supreme Court criticized the Residents’ Welfare Association for occupying the historic Gumti of Shaikh Ali tomb and rebuked the Archaeological Survey of India for failing to protect it. The court plans to appoint an archaeological expert to assess damages and emphasized the need to safeguard heritage sites for future generations.
Today (1st April): The Supreme Court declined to halt the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) study on the Bhojshala Temple and Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Madhya Pradesh. The survey aims to determine the religious nature of the site. This decision follows a directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court and a plea to prevent Muslims from offering prayers at the complex.
