Senior Advocate Shivendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the Additional Advocate General (AAG) for Himachal Pradesh to represent the state before the Supreme Court of India.
Shimla, March 6: A large group of advocates from the Himachal Pradesh High Court held a protest march in Shimla against the proposed amendments to the Advocates Act. The protest, organized by the Bar Association of HP High Court, started from the High Court and ended at the Raj Bhawan.
Today, On 18th February, The Supreme Court criticized states and Union Territories for failing to submit status reports on implementing the Domestic Violence Act. Expressing strong disapproval, the court emphasized the need for accountability in protecting victims’ rights. It directed authorities to ensure proper enforcement and support mechanisms for affected individuals. The bench warned of serious consequences for continued non-compliance.
The Supreme Court of India, led by Justices Surya Kant and NK Singh, addressed the heavy workload and vacancy issues within the Armed Forces Tribunal. They suggested establishing additional benches in remote areas to enhance access to justice and urged the government to expedite the appointment process and improve tribunal operations.
Justice Sanjay Karol was born on August 23, 1961, in Shimla and assumed office in the Supreme Court of India on February 6, 2023, retiring on August 22, 2026. He has authored 61 judgements and has held significant positions, including Chief Justice of Tripura and Patna High Courts. A Senior Advocate since 1999, he played crucial roles in reducing case pendency and served as Chancellor of law universities.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court stayed a single-judge order to close nine hotels of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) due to low occupancy. The interim order was passed on Monday by a division bench comprising Justices Vivek Singh Thakur and Rakesh Kaithala after hearing the appeal of the Corporation challenging the order of the single bench. The next hearing has been fixed on January 3.

On Friday(20th Sept), The Supreme Court criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for not compensating six landowners in Solan district before acquiring their land for a safety zone around a cement plant. The court ordered the state to pay Rs 3.05 crore to the affected landowners within 15 days, deeming the situation “regrettable.”
