Yesterday, On 23rd September, the Orissa High Court instructed the State to outline measures to safeguard the dignity of soldiers after an alleged assault incident involving an army officer and his lawyer-fiancée. The Court also requested a report on CCTV installations in police stations and imposed restrictions on disclosing the couple’s identities to protect their privacy.
Today, On 24th September,the Punjab and Haryana High Court began a suo motu Public Interest Litigation after a man committed suicide at the Golden Temple using a firearm from a security officer accompanying a judge. The court identified the incident as a serious security lapse and summoned the Punjab Director General of Police for an investigation.
The Union Law Ministry informed the Lok Sabha that 38 candidates from SC, ST, OBC, and BC are being considered for High Court judgeships.
