NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court recently held a hearing over a dispute concerning the burial of a Christian man from a Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in his family’s native village burial ground. The case sparked heated arguments between Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the State of Chhattisgarh, and Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves, who appeared for the petitioner, Ramesh Bhaghel.
The Supreme Court on Friday(8th Nov) has requested responses from the Karnataka Government and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar regarding a CBI petition contesting the state’s withdrawal of consent for a corruption investigation against Shivakumar. The case follows a High Court dismissal of earlier appeals from both the CBI and BJP leader Yatnal.
BJP chief B.Y. Vijayendra demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation after the High Court upheld the Governor’s order for an investigation into the MUDA scam. Siddaramaiah faces allegations of irregularities involving his family’s site allotments. Vijayendra urged Siddaramaiah to respect the court’s ruling and withdraw accusations against the Governor.
