Jharkhand: The Jharkhand High Court Advocates Association is protesting against the appointment of lawyers from outside the state as judges of the Jharkhand High Court.Since March 6, the lawyers have been boycotting the courts of Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, and Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay. These three judges are part of the High Court Collegium responsible for recommending names for the appointment of judges.
The NLU Odisha administration called the ongoing student protests “illegal” and accused the students of using “arm-twisting” tactics. The students started an indefinite protest, saying the administration has failed to solve their long-standing problems. They claim their issues have been ignored, forcing them to take this step. The administration’s statement has added to the tension between both sides.
Today, On 19th December, The Supreme Court ordered a 30% reservation for women in Delhi bar associations on a trial basis. A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan gave this decision after hearing petitions asking for up to 33% women’s quota in these groups. The goal is to improve gender balance in the legal field. The results of this order will be carefully observed.
