The Supreme Court has restructured its Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, appointing Justice B.V. Nagarathna as chairperson. The 11-member panel includes notable advocates and representatives tasked with addressing gender discrimination and related issues, following the retirement of Justice Hima Kohli. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud initiated this reconstitution.
On December 16, 2024, LawChakra hosted a discussion led by Senior Advocate Mahalakshmi Pavani on women’s safety in India, marking 12 years since the Nirbhaya case. Pavani highlighted a petition for pan-India safety guidelines, emphasized the need for effective law implementation, and discussed issues like pornography misuse and gender-neutral laws.
Today(on 9th August), the Supreme Court will host a screening of the Hindi film Laapataa Ladies for judges, their spouses, and registry members, organized by CJI DY Chandrachud. The event will also feature appearances by the film’s producers, Aamir Khan, and director Kiran Rao.
