Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned from the Gauhati High Court Bar Association as a controversy continues over the proposed shifting of the High Court from its current location, sparking strong reactions from lawyers.
The Gauhati High Court received a bomb threat via email from a group called ‘Madras Tigers’ on April 22. Police investigated and found no explosives, suggesting it might be a hoax. Court operations continued as normal, with judges hearing cases as scheduled despite the threat and ongoing search efforts for safety.
Gauhati: Kamal Nayan Choudhury, President of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA), on Wednesday requested that Justice N Unni Krishnan Nair step away from hearing a contempt of court case. This request was made during the proceedings before a Bench consisting of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Nair.
New Delhi: The Central Government informed the Supreme Court on Friday that 13 Bangladeshi nationals have been sent back to their country, and efforts are on to deport the remaining illegal immigrants currently staying in Assam’s detention centres. This decision came from a bench comprising Justices Bhushan R Gavai and K Vinod Chandran, as they overturned a 2013 directive issued by the Gauhati High Court.
