South Calcutta Law College, shut since June 29 after a student’s alleged gang rape on campus, told the Alipore court it wants to reopen, citing a police email stating no objection to resuming academic activities.
The West Bengal Bar Council has cancelled the lawyer license of Monojit Mishra, the main accused in the Kolkata law college rape case, following growing outrage and a formal complaint from the victim.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, was arrested for alleged corruption and financial misconduct. Facing public outrage over a doctor’s rape and murder at the hospital, he stepped down but was appointed as principal of another college by the West Bengal government. The case has been transferred to the CBI.
