Karnataka HC Quashes Central Government’s Ban on ’23 Breeds of Ferocious Dogs’

Today(on 10th April), The Karnataka High Court invalidated a controversial Central government circular banning 23 dog breeds labeled ‘ferocious’. Justice M Nagaprasanna emphasized procedural lapses, lack of stakeholder consultation, and non-compliance with animal cruelty laws. The ruling allows the government to issue a new circular after proper consultation. Responsible pet ownership and liability for injuries were highlighted. The ban was challenged for being arbitrary and discriminatory.

Delhi HC: All Pleas Against Centre’s Ban on 23 ‘Dangerous’ Dog Breeds to Be Heard Together

On Tuesday(2nd April),The Delhi High Court consolidated petitions challenging India’s ban on 23 aggressive dog breeds. The Division Bench emphasized the danger to children and merged related cases for collective review. The ban, issued due to increasing dog attacks, mandates sterilization of owned aggressive breeds. The next hearing is scheduled for April 9, 2024.
