The Supreme Court has set up a special bench to hear pending motor accident claim and criminal appeal cases every Monday and Friday at 2 PM, starting August 1. The legal community is urged not to delay the hearings by asking for adjournments.
The Supreme Court Today (Feb 24) refused bail to a minor with four criminal cases, calling him “incorrigible!” and stressed that juveniles cannot misuse the law to escape punishment. The Court ordered a speedy trial within four months.
With nearly 5,000 criminal cases pending against sitting and former MPs/MLAs, the Supreme Court has been urged to ensure fast-track trials. Senior advocate Vijay Hansaria highlighted that politicians misuse their power to delay investigations, with some cases dragging on for decades. A recent affidavit revealed that 251 Lok Sabha MPs face criminal charges, including 170 serious cases. The Supreme Court’s intervention is now crucial to uphold justice and democracy.
