VHP Event | CPI(M)’s Brinda Karat Urges CJI to Act on Allahabad HC Judge’s ‘Majoritarianism’ Remarks

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat on Monday (Dec 9) wrote to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna demanding action against Allahabad High Court judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav for his comment that the country will function according to the wishes of the majority living here. The All India Lawyers Union also protested against the comments made by Justice Yadav at a meeting organised by the VHP, saying democracy is not majoritarianism or religious majoritarianism and Justice Yadav’s expression and concept of democracy is ‘nothing less than of Hindutva Rashtra’.

Constitution Day Event | CJI Sanjiv Khanna: “The Better The Bar, The Better The Judges”

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna Today (Nov 26) addressed a gathering of lawyers during the Constitution Day event organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association. “The better the bar, the better the judges,” CJI Khanna said, emphasising the integral role of lawyers in the judiciary. He pointed out that while the judiciary is often represented by judges in robes, it equally represents the members of the bar.
