Today, On 23rd October, the Centre appointed five advocates as additional judges of the Bombay High Court for two years, amid a judge shortage (64 out of 94). This decision aims to alleviate the backlog of cases. The judges, recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, bring significant legal expertise to enhance judicial efficiency.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of two judicial officers, Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey, as judges of the Patna High Court. This decision follows consultations with eminent Supreme Court judges and input from the Union Department of Justice, confirming the candidates’ integrity and professional reputations.
Today, On 10th September, The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of three judicial officers, initially proposed by the Madras High Court, to serve as judges in the Madras High Court. The elevation of these officers, including Augustine Devadoss Maria Clete, aims to increase minority representation and strengthen the judiciary in Tamil Nadu, addressing vacancies and enhancing efficiency.

The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, recommended the elevation of high court judges N Kotiswar Singh and R Mahadevan to the Supreme Court. The collegium also recommended new Chief Justices for eight high courts to enhance diversity and representation from marginalized communities. This move aims to strengthen the judiciary and ensure diverse representation.
