NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday, January 15, dismissed a petition that challenged the decision to donate the mortal remains of MM Lawrence, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala and a former Lok Sabha MP, to a medical hospital for research purposes.
The Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging an Allahabad High Court order in the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah Mosque case as “infructuous.” The High Court had ordered ex-parte proceedings against the Mosque Committee, which sought to reject claims by Hindu worshippers. The case involves a long-standing dispute over the mosque’s legitimacy and the right to worship at the site.
The Supreme Court today rejected a petition to designate Agra as a World Heritage Site, questioning the benefits and legal provisions for such a declaration. Justices Oka and Masih were skeptical about the potential impact on Agra’s cleanliness and development. The counsel argued for preservation and tourism benefits, but the bench remained unconvinced.
