Supreme Court To Assam: “Ensure Proper Facilities At Detention Camps Within A Month”

The Supreme Court Today (Nov 4) directed the Assam government to ensure that detention camps in the State have proper facilities within a month. Bench directed the State authorities to visit such camps and hold a meeting with all concerned authorities. “The condition of detention camps are way beyond from being satisfactory. Even basic health amenities are lacking as per the report of the legal services authority,” the Court noted.

Supreme Court Directs Centre to Deport 17 Foreigners from Assam Detention Camps

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government on May 16th to deport 17 foreign nationals held in Assam detention camps. Justices Oka and Bhuyan emphasized the absence of pending legal cases against them and urged prompt deportation, prioritizing those held for two years. A two-month deadline was set for the government to submit a compliance report. The next hearing is on July 26.
