Today, On 4th April, The Allahabad High Court rejected Rahul Gandhi’s plea challenging a summoning order in the Savarkar defamation case. A sessions court had issued the summons last December, citing that his remarks on Savarkar promoted hatred and ill-will. The court’s decision means Gandhi must now appear as required in the legal proceedings. This case adds to the ongoing legal challenges faced by the Congress leader.
Kerala: A Kerala court on Friday, 28th Feb, granted bail to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader PC George in a hate speech case filed against him for making derogatory comments about the Muslim community.The case began after PC George made controversial statements during a televised debate on Janam TV on January 5.
Arunachal: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has requested the National Commission for Women (NCW) to take action against social media influencer Elvish Yadav. He allegedly made derogatory and racial remarks against former Miss Arunachal and Bigg Boss contestant Chum Darang.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina, and others over offensive remarks made on a show. NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar strongly condemned the language used and emphasized the need for stricter content regulation. She stated that the commission has written to the IT Ministry regarding the issue. The NCW is taking the matter seriously and is pushing for action against such content.
On Friday(23rd August), The Supreme Court of India clarified that not all insults or intimidating comments against SC/ST individuals automatically qualify as offenses under the SC/ST Act. This ruling came while granting anticipatory bail to Shajan Skaria, who faced charges under the Act for allegedly posting a derogatory video targeting a Kerala MLA from a Scheduled Caste community.
A court in Ajmer has acquitted six individuals accused of raising provocative slogans against BJP leader Nupur Sharma. The slogans were in response to derogatory comments made by Sharma about the Prophet. This led to Chishti’s arrest as the main accused in July 2022. Following his acquittal, Chishti expressed gratitude, stating, “Justice has been served in my case.”
