Today, On 5th September, The Delhi High Court ordered the Delhi Development Authority to compensate the families of a mother and son who tragically died after falling into an open drain in Ghazipur. The court instructed the DDA to pay Rs 20 lakh as a humanitarian gesture. The incident raised concerns about safety measures in the area, prompting the court’s decision.
The Supreme Court has reassigned the contempt case against the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) over tree felling to a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, previously overseen by Justice Abhay S. Oka. The case will be heard on August 29 by the Chief Justice along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
Today, On 25th July, The Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Development Authority to fence off the Yamuna river’s floodplain post removal of encroachments to prevent illegal constructions. The court emphasized the use of technology for monitoring, declined the formation of a special task force, and instructed the protection of the area. Various related directives were also issued.
Today, On 17th July, The Supreme Court criticized the Delhi government for allowing the removal of 422 trees without statutory power, emphasizing environmental concerns. It demanded an explanation and action taken report, expressing frustration over the lack of sensitivity and a perceived cover-up. The court also directed the government to take preventive measures and ensure proper infrastructure for environmental protection.
Today(on 10th July),The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Delhi Police following a petition alleging harassment for legal action against the DDA over unauthorized tree felling in the Ridge area. The case, rooted in a Suo motu contempt against the DDA Vice Chairman, also questions the involvement of Delhi LG VK Saxena.
The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi government and civic agencies to address the decline in the city’s green cover. It emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent illegal tree felling, issuing notices to relevant authorities. Concerns about tree loss impacting residents led to the mandate for comprehensive measures to enhance Delhi’s green cover.
Today, On 24th June, The Supreme Court issued contempt notices to Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials for unauthorized tree cutting, stressing the need to protect the environment. The court plans a thorough investigation and a large tree plantation initiative in Delhi. Earlier, a contempt notice was issued to the DDA Vice-Chairman for extensive tree cutting. Next hearing scheduled for June 26.
The Delhi High Court has granted the caretaker of a mosque and madarsa in Hazrat Nizamuddin one month to vacate the premises before its scheduled demolition. This decision comes after the petitioner’s request for sufficient time to seek legal remedies. The court ordered authorities to allow the caretaker to vacate the site within the specified period.
