NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition filed by Rajya Sabha MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal. She had requested the court to cancel an FIR registered against her in 2016. The FIR accused her of revealing the identity of a 14-year-old rape survivor.
Swati Maliwal, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson, filed a complaint alleging that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal instructed his aide to assault her. This sparked controversy and the National Commission for Women (NCW) has vowed legal action and an inquiry. The outcome could impact political accountability and the safety of women activists in India.
Today(on 9th May), Delhi HC requests responses from DCW and city government on petition by lawyers challenging short-term contracts in the rape crisis cell. Justice Subramonium Prasad issues notice for replies within three weeks.
