Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and close associate of main conspirator David Coleman Headley, was presented in a Delhi court after completing his 18-day NIA custody. The hearing will be “in-camera,” with arguments from NIA and his appointed defense attorney. His extradition from the U.S. precedes this trial.
After a prolonged legal battle, the NIA has successfully extradited 26/11 Mumbai attacks accused Tahawwur Rana from the United States. He arrived in Delhi after a lengthy legal battle spanning several years. Upon landing at Palam Technical Airport, he was escorted under tight security. Rana will now face investigation and trial under charges including terrorism and waging war against India.
Tahawwur Rana, wanted for his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, is battling extradition to India. His attorney has petitioned the US Supreme Court to reconsider earlier court decisions based on double jeopardy claims, arguing it pertains to the same conduct. The Supreme Court will address this matter on January 17.
