Bombay High Court Today (July 1) rejected pleas opposing the Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray’s memorial at Shivaji Park. The Court upheld the Maharashtra government’s actions, including land and fund allocation.
NEW DELHI: On February 14, 2025, the Supreme Court of India expressed its disapproval towards the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) for taking two years to approach the court regarding a Madras High Court decision. This decision had quashed a showcause notice against the Isha Foundation for constructing multiple buildings between 2006 and 2014.
NEW DELHI: A land dispute case that has been pending for 66 years has finally been decided by a city court in New Delhi. The original parties involved in the case have long passed away, but the case was still being heard until recently. The court ruled that the case was not maintainable in its present form, meaning it could not continue in the way it had been filed.
Today, On 23rd August, The Supreme Court rejected a plea challenging the construction of a Gram Panchayat Bhawan in Bihar, questioning the involvement of the apex court in local administrative issues. The petitioner’s concerns about potential disruptions to the educational environment were dismissed, affirming the importance of local governance and the need for adequate facilities to support it.
The Supreme Court ordered the Maharashtra Government today (17th May) to release the initial land parcel for the new Bombay High Court building without delay. Concerned about the slow progress, the Court also discussed temporary alternative sites and the selection of architects. Further proceedings are scheduled for July 15 to review the progress.
CJI DY Chandrachud emphasized the crucial link between an independent bar and judiciary. He urged legal professionals to prioritize allegiance to the court and Constitution over partisan interests. Chandrachud also expressed concern over lawyers publicly commenting on ongoing cases, stressing the ethical responsibility to maintain the sanctity of legal proceedings.
During a Supreme Court session regarding industrial alcohol, CJI DY Chandrachud engaged in light-hearted banter with senior advocate Dinesh Dwivedi, who apologized for his “colourful grey hair,” leading to an unexpectedly “spirited” exchange.
The Nagpur High Court Bar Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a three-day event, starting on April 5th. CJI DY Chandrachud will inaugurate the celebration. The event will feature distinguished guests from the legal community, cultural showcases, and a cricket match, signifying the association’s rich legacy and future aspirations.
CJI DY Chandrachud emphasised the importance of valid evaluation and free thinking in the legal profession, highlighting the role of legal education in serving society and fulfilling social responsibilities. Addressing students at Sri Venkateswara University’s Department of Law, he urged students to perceive the legal profession as a form of societal duty.
Construction of the new Telangana High Court building in Rajendranagar will commence Today (March 27th), with CJI DY Chandrachud laying the foundation stone. The ceremony will take place at 5:30 pm and will be attended by High Court judges as well as various dignitaries from the state government.
