NEW DELHI: On Monday, The Supreme Court of India has warned that its decision on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL) dispute must be followed strictly. The court stated that if the ruling is not obeyed, it will take strict action against the officials of the private company and Axis Bank.
The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on EVM verification to February 11, following concerns about the Election Commission’s compliance with its earlier directive. The case relates to an application by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) seeking verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The adjournment allows further time to address the compliance issues raised. The matter remains critical for ensuring transparency in the electoral process.

Since 2018, fare meters have been inoperative despite legal mandates, prompting the court to demand inspections to ensure compliance with updated fare rules.
The Supreme Court today stayed its decision to record only the appearances of lawyers physically or online during hearings in court orders. Senior Counsel Kapil Sibal raised the issue, leading to a delay in the implementation of the order issued on August 29. The next hearing is scheduled for September 11. The court emphasized that only actively participating lawyers should have their presence recorded.

The Court’s decision referenced the Supreme Court’s judgment in Lata Singh v. State of UP, which offers protection to interfaith couples. The UCC in Uttarakhand mandates registration for live-in couples.
