Today, On 8th September, The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a plea filed by the grandson of Gopal Patha seeking to stay the release of The Bengal Files movie. The court refused to interfere, clearing the way for its release.
The West Bengal government stated in court that the law and order in Murshidabad is under control despite recent riots, prompting opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari to request an NIA investigation. Additional police deployment and efforts for resettlement of displaced residents were discussed, while the Supreme Court is also urged to intervene and ensure a thorough investigation.
The Supreme Court has today issued a notice to the Gujarat Government regarding former police officer Sanjiv Bhatt’s appeal against his conviction and life sentence in a 1990 custodial death case. Bhatt, along with other officers, was found guilty of custodial torture following communal riots. The case will be heard alongside related appeals.
