The Supreme Court proposed special courts for day-to-day trials in Manipur violence cases and directed the CBI and SITs to expedite pending investigations. The CBI informed the Court that witness examination has become difficult due to widespread displacement.
The Supreme Court directed the Centre to form a committee to ensure uniform post-retirement facilities for retired High Court judges across all States within two weeks. CJI Surya Kant observed that while some States provide adequate support, others fail to offer even basic facilities, creating significant disparities.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant constituted four special benches to fast-track some of the Supreme Court’s oldest pending civil and criminal cases. “The judiciary’s foremost obligation is not merely to decide cases, but to decide them within a timeframe that preserves faith in the rule of law,” he said.
The BJP criticised the INDIA alliance for writing to Chief Justice Surya Kant over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged the Opposition was spreading misinformation, creating fear about elections, and attempting to undermine democratic institutions.
