Kerala VC Appointments Row intensifies as Governor approaches the Supreme Court, arguing that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cannot play any role in the selection of Vice Chancellors, citing UGC Regulations that completely bar executive interference in appointments.
Today, On 13th August, The Supreme Court said, “Don’t precipitate on temporary VC issue, position of law doesn’t change,” while deciding to form a search committee for appointing regular vice-chancellors in Kerala universities amid an ongoing deadlock between the Governor and state government.
Today, On 3rd October, Attorney General R. Venkatramani discussed the conflict between the West Bengal government and Governor C.V. Anand Bose regarding Vice-Chancellor appointments. Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan are reviewing the case, set for further hearing on October 14, highlighting governance issues in state universities.
The Supreme Court today appointed former Chief Justice UU Lalit to lead a committee overseeing the appointments of Vice-Chancellors for public universities in West Bengal. This move aims to resolve the dispute between the state government and the Governor over the final authority for these appointments. Justice Lalit will form sub-committees and receive compensation accordingly.
